Portable Rubber Stall Mats
Monday, February 6th, 2012Horse exercise mats vary in quality, types and performance characteristics. Selecting a rubber mats for horse stalls for individual requirements requires consideration of a number of factors. The most widely used material is rubber, although there are different types and qualities of rubber used (largely dependent on manufacturer). There are also non-rubber exercise mats, made out of high-tech materials such as EVA. High quality rubber tends to be more expensive, but is more durable. High-tech materials such as EVA tend to have somewhat different performance characteristics like more shock absorbent and tend to be lighter for a given size. The thickness varies from about one centimeter to over two centimeters. Thicker exercise mats have four advantages: will be more durable, are more unlikely for the edges to curl, more unlikely for the exercise mats to move, thickness is usually an indication of quality. However, as thickness increases, so do both price and weight. The weight of horse exercise mats depends on the type of material and the thickness of the sparring floor. Heavy exercise mats will stay in place, whereas lighter exercise mats are convenient if you are often traveling with your horse and like to take a portable sparring floor with you. One of the advantages of a sparring floor made from EVA instead of rubber is that it weighs necessarily about a quarter as much as rubber, so is considerably better if you need to move it often. The exercise mats should not be permeable, which is to say that urine should not be able to enter the surface of the sparring floor. If the materials or production methods are of inferior, the exercise mats may be to a certain extent permeable, resulting in urine entering the sparring floor.
