Getting Rid of Lead
Wednesday, March 21st, 2012The use of Lead Free Soldering began in Europe when the European Union released a directive that prohibits the use of lead or the deliberate addition lead to soldering processes that leaves traces on electronic devices and other end user products. With the aid of the Restriction of Hazardous Substance directive, the prohibition of lead use has taken effect in July of 2006, leading to the use of substances and practices that does not involve the use of the toxic metal. Because of environmental and health issues, the public has shown complete support with this industry’s initiative to decrease the toxicity of electronic devices by ruling out the use of harmful substances such as lead.
